September 7, 2005
To install the System Information Center program update, unzip the
setup_isic12_update.zip file on your System Information Center version 1.1
server to unpack the setup files to a temporary folder. Double-click the
setup.exe file in the DISK1 folder and follow the instructions on the
screen.
NOTE: This update requires that you already have the System Information
Center version 1.1 program installed on your server. Any asset information
already gathered will continue to be available after the update is complete.
During the installation, the existing database will be backed up. Make sure
the server system has sufficient available storage space, either locally or
on a network share, to hold the backup.
The following information briefly introduces the IBM System Information Center
program along with considerations for the usage of the program.
More
information about the use of the System Information Center program can
be found in the Administrator's Guide, available at
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-56187
Introduction
============
The IBM System Information Center program provides ways for you to efficiently
manage asset inventory and details regarding each asset. Asset information is
gathered on client computers and delivered to a central built-in database
provided with the program. Or, information can be manually entered for assets
other than personal computers. After the information is entered in the
database, you can manipulate it and view it to generate a variety of reports or
to perform a multitude of tasks and advanced functions. More information about
the features and functions of the System Information Center program can be found
in the Administrator's Guide document.

System requirements
===================
The following are the minimum system requirements for the System Information
Center server:
- Minimum hardware requirements:
o Intel? Pentium? 3 processor
o 1024 MB of RAM minimum
o CD-ROM drive
o 200 MB of free hard disk space
o One of the following operating systems:
- Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4 or higher
- Windows Server 2003
o Apache Tomcat Web Application Server v4.1.30
o Internet Explorer Web browser (6.0+)
o A network connection (for client access and remote administration)
o Internet access for the downloading of files during installation
Note: The System Information Center program is set up to use port 80, which
conflicts with Internet Information Services (IIS) provided by the operating
system. Before you install the System Information Center program, disable IIS on
the server to avoid this conflict. For instructions about disabling IIS, refer
to the System Information Center Administrator's Guide.
The following are the minimum system requirements for the Software Delivery
Center client:

o Network connection (TCP/IP)
o Internet Explorer Web browser (6.0+)
Considerations
==============
The IBM System Information Center program update version 1.2 requires the
System Information Center program version 1.1 to already be installed.
If you encounter problems loading the System Information Center administrator?s
console Web pages while running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you may need to
add your System Information Center server address to your Trusted Sites list. To
add the System Information Center program to the Trust Sites zone, perform the
following steps:
1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools in the menu bar and click Internet
Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Click Trusted sites.
4. Click the Sites... button.
5. Clear the check box beside "Require server verification (https:) for all
sites in this zone".
6. Type the server address in the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field.
7. Click Add.
8. Click OK and then load or reload the System Information Center
Administration Login panel.
Changes
=======
Version 1.2
Addressed issue where client installation would not
automatically upload asset information scans at the scheduled
time.
Compatibility in the client agent for ThinkPad T43 systems.
Added reports to display Temperature information from the
Hardware Events Log on client systems which contain the
supporting hardware. These reports show the number of
occurrences within three different temperature ranges as
reported by the processor and two other sensors. The
maximum temperature is also included. The Current Season values,
the Previous Season values, and Lifetime values are represented
in the three new reports.
Under the Admin menu, another function has been added which
allows an administrator to remotely reset the main server
application modules in case the application stops processing
items in the background task queue.
Improved performance of the Menus so that only one menu can be
open at a time. The speed of the menus has also been improved.
Includes new version of IBM System Information Gatherer program.
Added reports to show new assets added in the last week, month,
year.
Capability to gather the Security Events log if the client OS is
configured to generate it. Log can be viewed from the Asset/
Compare Revisions interface.
