ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility

This program is language independent and can be used with any language
system.
What This Package Does
----------------------
The ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility given here can update the system
program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new
functions, or expand functions.
This release supports the following system:
- ThinkPad A21e
- ThinkPad A22e(Celeron Model)
The supported operating systems are as follows:
- Windows 98 Second Edition
- Windows Me
- Windows NT
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows XP Home
To determine if you have to update the system program, please
refer to the "Summary of Change" section.
To update the system program, please refer to the "Installation
instructions" section.

cause system hang.

the HDD spindle motor during a system power off.
- (Fix) If supervisor password is enabled, disabling Legacy Floppy
Devices in BIOS setup startup menu does not work properly.

network card to expand a usable DOS memory area.

- (Fix) (Windows 98)BIOS sometimes displays an error message at
hibernation wakeup if a USB memory key is used on Windows 98.
- (Fix) Boot priority for the network boot does not become to the
default setting, if a F9 key is pressed twice in IBM BIOS
Setup Utility.
Installation Instructions
-------------------------
NOTES: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
the system program.
- If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station
or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it
before proceeding.
- Before using Flash Update with Windows 98 Second Edition,
IBM recommends that you download and apply the "Windows 98 Second
Edition Shutdown Supplement" from the Microsoft Support WWW Site.

1. After you have opened the above link, click on
http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp
2. Scroll down to "Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement"
and click it.
3. Click Next.
4. Accept the License to download the file.
5. Run the executable that you just downloaded.
1) Print these instructions or display on another computer.
2) Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3) Start Windows 98Se/Me/2000 on the target computer.
4) Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance,
C:Temp)
5) Download the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility from the
web site and store the file into the temporary directory.
(e.g. C:Temp)
6) Click on Start button.
7) Click on Run..
8) Specify filename with the full path name where you stored
Embedded Controller Program Update Utility.
(e.g. C:Temp10uj07us.exe) Then press Enter.
9) Follow the instructions.
10) When completed, system is automatically turned off.
Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the
update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND
THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS,
THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
After the update has been completed, do the following to
confirm the change is correctly applied.
6. Make sure the no diskette is inserted in the diskette drive.
7. Turn on the computer; then, while the "Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup
Utility" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the
screen, press F1 key.
If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
8. Check "Embedded Controller Version".
BIOS Information
----------------
Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the
following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can
be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility.
Embedded controller version number can be viewed by running ThinkPad
Configurator from your operating system and select System Information
from the Help menu or System Information button. Embedded controller
information can also be found by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility.
