WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES
Communications Utility enables you to change all settings for the integrated camera,
microphone, and audio functions at one place to optimize the Video and Voice over the
Internet (VOIP) experience.
The following functions are provided:
- Integrated camera settings (only for models with the integrated camera)
Muting the camera during the video chat (Windows 7/Vista/XP)
Automatic zooming of the camera preview using face detection (Windows 7)
Screen sharing feature during the VOIP conference (Windows 7)
- Audio settings
Refer to marketing materials to find out the computer model information and the device(s) each
model supports.
If an earlier version of this package has been installed on your computer,
updating (overwrite-installing) this package will fix problems, add new functions, or expand
functions as noted below.

DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED
[Windows 7]
1. Click Start->Control Panel.
2. Select Category from the View by drop-down list box, and then click Uninstall a program.
3. Click Organize->Layout, and then select Details pane. The details pane will be shown at the
bottom of the screen.
4. Select ThinkVantage Communications Utility from the Name list.
5. View the product version number in the details pane.
[Windows Vista]
1. Click Start->Control Panel.
2. Select Control Panel Home, and then click Uninstall a program.
3. Click Organize->Layout, and then select Details Pane. The details pane will be shown at
the bottom of the screen.
4. Select ThinkVantage Communications Utility from the Name list.
5. View the product version number in the details pane.
[Windows XP]
1. Click Start->Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs, and the Add or Remove Programs window opens.
3. Click ThinkVantage Communications Utility, and then click Click here for
support information..
4. View the version number.

NOTES
To enable Communications Utility, the following software also are required to be installed on
your computer:
- Integrated camera driver (Version varies on computer models.)
- Integrated audio driver (Version varies on computer models.)
Communications Utility does not support the remote desktop and remote assistance environment.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Note:
If Communications Utility works properly on your computer, it might not be necessary to update
the program. To determine whether you should update the program, refer to the Version
Information section.
Manual installation
To download, extract, and install the program on your computer manually, do the following:
Note: This section assumes to use the Internet Explorer Web browser and Windows Explorer.
1. Ensure to log on the computer with and administrator account.
2. Click the file link for the executable on the Web page.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
4. Click Save when you are prompted to select Run or Save.
5. Select a drive and directory to save the downloaded file.
6. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded and extract the executable.
7. Locate the folder where the executable was extracted.
8. Double-click the executable and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the
installation.
Note: During the installation process, make sure to select the checkbox next to
"Install..... now ", and then click Finish.
9. Restart your computer.
Unattended installation
To perform unattended installation, do the following:
Note: The unattended installation can only be performed by system administrators.
1. Click the file link for the executable on the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory to save and extract the executable.
3. Locate the folder where the executable was extracted.
4. Double-click the executable and follow the instructions on the screen.
5. Make sure not to select the checkbox next to “Install..... now”, and then click Finish to
cancel the installation process.
6. At the command line, execute the setup.exe file with the following option:
/SP- /VERYSILENT /NORESTART /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES
For example: [Path where the files were extracted]setup.exe /SP- /VERYSILENT /NORESTART

Uninstalling the software manually
[Windows 7]
1. Start Windows and log on with an administrator account.
2. Click Start->Control Panel.
3. Select Category from the View by drop-down list box, and then click Uninstall a program.
4. Select ThinkVantage Communications Utility from the Name list, and then click
Uninstall/Change.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstalling the software and then restart
your computer.
[Windows Vista]
1. Start Windows and log on with an administrator account.
2. Click Start->Control Panel.
3. Select Control Panel Home, and then click Uninstall a program.
4. Select ThinkVantage Communications Utility from the Name list, and then click
Uninstall/Change.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstalling the software and then
restart your computer.
[Windows XP]
1. Start Windows and log on with an administrator account.
2. Click Start->Control Panel.
3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs, and the Add or Remove Programs window opens.
4. Click ThinkVantage Communications Utility, and then click Change/Remove.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstalling the program and restart your
computer.
