Windows Supplement Files

Notice:
-------
- If you use the Product Recovery function shipped with your ThinkPad to
restore the Windows preload environment, you do not need this
package. This package is required when you install Windows Operating
Systems without the Product Recovery function.
- This program is based on the US version but, this is language independent
and can be used with any language system.
What This Package Does
----------------------
This package contains following support of INTEL 82801/82830 chipset.
- To detect and configure the INTEL 82801/82830 controller
- To avoid resource conflict with IDE controller in APM mode
- To allocate resource to ThinkPad Dock correctly.
The following ThinkPad computers are supported:
- ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p
- ThinkPad T23
- ThinkPad T30*
- ThinkPad X22, X23, X24
* Only the following T30 models support Windows Me:
2366/2367 - x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x and A7x except for M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x and M5x
To determine if you should update the supplement files, refer to the
"Summary of Changes" section.
To update the supplement files, refer to the "Installation Guide"
section.

INSTALL:
[INFINST_ENU.exe]
Apply this program to enumerate INTEL 82830 and 82801 chipset correctly
after installing base operating system with each supplement files.
[How to install in interactive mode]
1. Close any running applications.
2. Click Start, then click Run.
3. In the Run dialog window, type
C:DRIVERSWINSUPPINTELINFINFIXST_ENU.EXE to install the registry
patch. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you
extracted the files to a different location, specify that location
instead.
4. At the Welcome window click Next.
5. At the Software License Agreement window, if you agree, click Yes.
This will start the installation process.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions and use the default settings to
complete the setup.
[How to install in silent mode]
- Run infinst_enu.exe with switch "-a" and "-S"
[How to extract Windows INF files prior to OS installation]
1. Click Start and then click Run.
2. Type infinst_enu.exe -a -a -p C:INTEL (for example ) in Open column,
and Click OK. Setup Screen (INTEL Chipset Software Installation Utility
V3.20.1008) appears.
NOTE: This stage just runs the installShield program and does not
extract the INF and CAT files
3. Click Next in Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for window.
4. Click Yes to Accept License Agreement.
5. Click Next at ReadMe Information screen. Progress bar shows the extract
status. After reaching 100%, the INF and CAT files have been extracted
in C:INTEL folder.
6. Check C:INTEL folder. You should see "ICH3-M" folder and others in
C:INTEL directory. You can use the INF and CAT files from the Win2000,
Win95Cur, Win95Old, Win98, Win98SE, WinME, XP folders for installation.
7. The subdirectory that you want to use is C:INTELICH3-M
[Windows 2000]
1. Create the following directory structure under the Directory> $OEM$$1driversIntelINF
2. Copy all of the files from C:INTELICH3-MWin2000 to the directory
created in step 1.
3. Either modify the default Windows 2000 installation answer file,
UNATTEND.TXT located in , or create a
customized answer file. The answer file must include the following
information.

OemPnPDriversPath = "driversIntelINF"
4. Run "WINNT.EXE /u: /s:" to
install Windows 2000
[Windows 98/98SE/Me]
1. Copy the Windows 98 INF Files from the C:INTELICH3-MWin98 to the
setup directory that has Windows 98 Supplement Files for Windows 98
installation, or
Copy the Windows 98 Second Edition INF Files from C:INTELICH3-MWin98SE
to the setup directory that has Windows 98 Supplement Files for Windows
98 Second Edition installation, or Copy the Windows ME Files from the
C:INTELICH3-MWinME to the setup directory that has Windows ME
Supplement Files for Windows ME installation.
2. Depending on your content, there are two cases:
Case A: CUSTOM.INF file is NOT present in the

3. Run SETUP.EXE to install Windows 98.
[Windows 95]
1. If you are installing Windows 95 Original Release or OSR1, copy the
Windows 95 INF files from C:INTELICH3-MWin95Old to the setup directory
that has Windows 95 Supplement File for Windows 95 installation. Then go
to Step 3.
2. If you are installing Windows 95 OSR2 or later, Copy the Windows 95 INF
files from C:INTELICH3-MWin95Cur to the setup directory that has
Windows 95 Supplement File for Windows 95 Installation.
NOTE: Do not copy the files from the C:INTELICH3-MWin95CurUSB
directory at this time, even if you intend to install the USB
Supplement after OS Setup.
3.Depending on your content, there are two cases.
Case A: CUSTOM.INF file is NOT present in the .

4. Run SETUP.EXE to install Windows 95.
As for Windows 95 and Windows 95 OSR1, Installation is completed.
5. To install the USB Supplement, Run Device manager to prepare for the Update
of the USB device driver
a. Click Start
b. Select Settings.
c. Select Control panel.
d. Double-Click System icon.
e. Click Device Manager tab.
f. Click View Devices by connection button.
g. Click Plug and Play
h. Click PCI.
i. Click PCI Universal Serial Bus
j. Click Remove
6. Install the Windows 95 "USB Supplement" executable.
Follow the screen prompts to reboot the system.

[IDEAPM.reg]
Apply this patch to avoid resource conflict with Standard IDE HDD
Controller and ultra ATA Storage controller on APM Mode.
1. Click Start and then click Run.
2. In the Run dialog window, type C:DRIVERSWINSUPPIDE-APMIDEAPM.REG
to install the registry patch. Click the OK button to start the
installation process. If you extracted the files to a different
location, specify that location instead
3. When prompted to add the information to the registry, click Yes.
4. Click OK to close the dialog window.
Unattended Install:
- Run Regedit.exe by specifying the /s parameter.
